"A Letter to God" by Gregorio Lopez portraits man's innocent faith in God.Though it is sometimes admirable to show such conviction in a belief,it can turn into ignorance and cloud the judgement of people, making them irrational. Lencho blindly places his trust in God and passes on the baton for God,who is omnipotent, to shoulder his responsibilities. This reveals his fatal flaw, his lack of self-reliance.
ReplyDeleteThis story is written by G L Fuentes. This is a story about the great faith of a simpleton in the God. The story begins with Lencho hoping for rains so that his crops would give a better yield. The rain does come but is followed by a devastating hailstorm. Hailstorm destroys all the standing crops and leaves Lencho staring into the bleak future ahead. But Lencho is a strong believer in the God and decides to write a letter to the God; asking for some monetary help. Lencho also wishes to repay the debt when the next crop would give him enough money. After seeing Lencho’s letter, the postmaster is deeply touched by the strong faith of Lencho in the God. The postmaster collects money from his colleagues and sends some money to Lencho. But the money sent by the postmaster is less than what the Lencho had demanded through his letter. Lencho once again writes a letter to the God in which he expresses his doubts about the honesty of post office employees.
ReplyDeleteThis story portrays a common man's extreme faith in God. So much faith that he believes that God actually sends him the money, but like all humans his desire does not end with the money he gets, he complains that he got only 70 pesos when he asked for 100 pesos. Again he sends another letter to God saying that the postmen cannot be trusted when in reality it was the postman sent him the money.
ReplyDeleteThe story 'Letter to God', is a story of an innocent and simple man named Lencho. He had tremendous faith in God. When his field was destroyed, he wrote a letter to god asking for 100 pesos, so that he could sow another round of crops and till then he could feed his family with those 100 pesos. When the post master received the letter, he was deeply moved by the faith of Lencho. So, he along with the help of some of his friends and colleagues raised a fund of 70 pesos for Lencho. However, when Lencho received the 70 pesos he was rather disappointed. He again wrote a letter to god and asked him to send the rest 30 pesos but requested him not to send the money through mail. This is because he thought that it was the employees of post office who stole the 30 pesos. But in reality it was the employees of post office who had helped him. Yes, Lencho's undying faith in god reveals his lack of self-reliance. His faith in god was more than trust on himself and other human being. He asked help from god instead from any human being.

ReplyDeleteLetter to God is an eye opener as there are many who have faith in God but minuscule faith in humanity and brotherhood. Lencho should have accepted the money as God’s blessing and used it for his needs. Instead, he asked for more which shows he was greedy. The postmaster and his colleagues didn’t want to shatter his strong belief in God, therefore they decided to help him out with whatever cash they had. Lencho criticised the postmaster and his colleagues instead of thinking about the help he received.
I think having faith in God is good but we should have some amount of respect and trust for the people in our surroundings.
Lencho has great faith in God. After the hailstorm destroyed his crop,he wrote a letter to God asking for a hundred pesos which could help him sow his field again and last till the next batch of crops came. This shows that Lencho is reliant on God's help for his troubles.
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree that Lencho isn't self-reliant. Yet,he is a hard-working farmer and because of his distress he sought for God's help.
